Missy Elliott, born Melissa Arnette Elliott on July 1, 1971, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer who is widely regarded as one of the most innovative and influential figures in hip-hop.

Born in Portsmouth, Virginia, Elliott began her career as part of the R&B group Sista and later formed a successful songwriting and production partnership with Timbaland.

She launched her solo career in the late 1990s with her debut album Supa Dupa Fly (1997), which included the hit single “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly).” Known for her groundbreaking music videos, creative beats, and genre-defying style, Elliott continued to release critically acclaimed albums like Miss E… So Addictive (2001) and Under Construction (2002), featuring hits like “Get Ur Freak On” and “Work It.”

Elliott has won multiple Grammy Awards and is celebrated for breaking barriers for women in hip-hop. In 2019, she became the first female rapper to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, further cementing her legacy as a trailblazer in the music industry.
