The daughter of Broadway star John Raitt, Bonnie was exposed to music from an early age and became interested in the blues during her teenage years. She attended Radcliffe College but left to pursue a music career, quickly making a name for herself in the blues and folk scenes of the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Raitt released her self-titled debut album in 1971, showcasing her talents as both a musician and a vocalist. Over the years, she gained critical acclaim but commercial success eluded her until the release of her 1989 album “Nick of Time,” which won three Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year. She followed this success with other hit albums like “Luck of the Draw” and “Longing in Their Hearts,” featuring popular songs like “Something to Talk About” and “I Can’t Make You Love Me.”
